Elders Guide (posted here so members can also be re-assured about our values)

Congratulations on becoming an Elder, you have been selected for a number of reasons but we want to give you some guidance about elder type things.

OUR VALUES
We value friendships, respect for a persons dignity, loyalty, trust, honesty integrity.

A proven form of leadership is to lead by example. By saying what we do and doing what we say. But what does this all mean?

IN LUDUS

Please give "the speech" see the guide on the community stats sheet

IN ALL OTHER CLANS

Please study the join us page for information regarding entry levels to all clans. Remember if the players is TH7-10 they may have a place here with 4+ builders, 18+, maturity and purple walls & good defences. So don't reject a player just because he is below your clans minimum reqs.

INTRODUCE THE FAMILY

State we have 4 active farming clans, from TH7-10 and sort players into each clan based on walls, defences and TH level. That we want to help players max their potential and enjoy clash even more. Then explain which clan they would be fit into and post a notice on the Council board.

CODES FOR GLASSBOARD

If you don't have the codes for glassboard for your Elders board or the general Elders council please ask your Leader for them.

NEW APPLICANTS/RECRUITS
Have a friendly conversation with them. Although their base may be weak, treat all applicants with dignity and respect - even Gemmers. Remember, our clan members are watching and they will respect you more if you treat people respectfully.

An introduction AvengingNinja has used before is:

"Hi there, I'm 40 from New Zealand balding. Where are you from?"

Humour, when used effectively, tends to catch people off guard and disarms them. Also, the rest of the clan picks up on the humour and the fun infectiously spreads

The clan requirements are what you are focused on getting answers to ... But it need not feel like an interrogation. Try to promote some of the things that we do as well. For example:

"We have a lot of experienced farmers here ... You will enjoy it here."

It's vague enough not to disclose clan based secrets but absolutely the truth. Don't stretch the truth though - as our clan members are watching and will know a falsehood.

If a person doesn't meet clan requirements, try to give them a tip on how to improve. It's something small but if taken heed of, they will be forever thankful. Also, they are more likely to reapply once they do meet requirements.

Dignity, respect in an open friendly conversation is the best method according to AvengingNinja

IMPRESSIVE APPLICANTS THAT DON'T MEET STANDARDS
What if a person doesn't meet clan requirements, but you are impressed with an applicant - please allow them to stay in the clan and alert the Council.

Whilst they are in the clan please monitor how they interact with others as fit may be looked upon.

SUSPECTED GEMMERS
Please treat them in friendly manner because you will need to get linked to their game centre account hehehe. A game centre account can give a lot of information allowing inferences to be drawn. For instance: a Town Hall 9 with skull walls but they haven't got their gold grab three is clearly a gemmer.

EDUCATING OTHERS
An important element of being an elder is to help others. Your experience as players comes in handy here. Knowing what worked for you and what didn't work for you. Share your thoughts with our clan members. Remember there is many different ways to play the game so being able to state your reasoning will give others insight.

For example, we upgrade splash defences as a top priority because they can kill multiple troops, not just one at a time.

Even though you are sharing/educating one clan member, others are watching and will take note and factor it into their future game play. This is how AvengingNinja planned his entire Town Hall 8 experience was through lurking and listening to an elder teach someone else.

When educating people there are key things to focus on:
1. Base layout
2. Army composition
3. Farming Technique

But also, encouraging people to share what they are learning. We don't know everything ... We learn through trial and error or through experimentation.

OUR AIM
Our aim is to create a vibrant healthy clan where people are treated as equals and where their ideas and points of view can be openly expressed.

I hope you will help make this clan a great place to be. Have fun and clash on.
